At the university, as in school, mainly “hard skills” and only some common “soft skills” not even always containing giving a presentation are practiced. For most graduates, it turns out on the first working day that this is apparently not everything to master the first job well.
In order to prepare the participants of the International Conference of Physics Students for this situation, we have set up two workshop slots. These will be on Tuesday 13th August 2019 from 2 pm to 4 pm and on Friday 16th August 2019 from 3 pm to 5 pm. The main goal is to pass on non-standard knowledge, real life experience and practical advice for students showing them life outside of the well-known envy tower called academia.
Thematically, we have thought about work-life balance, effective science communication, assessment centre role plays and a Start-Up workshop.
Please be aware that an extra registration for selected workshops might be required. Thus, make sure to follow us on Facebook or regularly check our website for updates in order to not miss it. Those will be published here together with the respective workshop description as soon as they are finalised.
For external partners & sponsors:
We consciously offer here that external partners can also design a workshop. This is due to the fact that approximately 80 % of physics students – being over 400 of our participants – will switch to economy immediately after their PhD. For example, a workshop on careers in industry would be a good option, which would focus on the qualifications that students should acquire during their studies in order to have good employment opportunities with you later on. We will also be happy to talk to you about your own workshop ideas.
Further services include a fully equipped seminar room, mention of the workshop and your company in the programme and on the website. If you wish, we can also arrange for students to register in advance. We can take your priority with regard to the possible time slot into account depending on the availability. If you are interested in this unique advertising opportunity and access to 500, pre-selected, international physics students from 50 countries, with the option of continuing with a free choice of topics, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can settle with you the details and individual requirements.
